Goat
Island, just
north of Martin Dam, has been the home to a family of goats for
as long as most lake dwellers can remember. With every cruise
by the island you can get a glimpse of the bearded island inhabitants.
To get an even better look at the goats, rumor has it, that they
never refuse a handout of fruits and lettuce from friendly boaters.
Chimney Rock/Acapulco
Rock, are two of the most famous island names and popular
stopping points on the lake. Since the very birth of the lake
brave divers have been plunging into the deepest part of the lake,
from the many different shelf-like ledges Chimney Rock and Acapulco
Rock have to offer. If you dare, take the plunge!.
Graveyard Island,
is one of the smallest islands on the lake and it is also
one of the oldest graveyards in the Lake Martin area. The island
graveyard is the final resting place for Ray Simeons buried on
July 7, 1888 at only 41/2 years old and Mollie Dennis buried in
the 1920's. She was one of the last to be buried in the cemetery
because the lake was completed just a short time after death.
Upon the completion of the dams that created the lake, their final
resting place became Graveyard Island when Lake Martin was filled.
